There are currently a large variety of different types of vitamins available to buy, which can help you stay healthy.  Such vitamins, as well as other very important minerals, are also known as micronutrients. It is these nutrients the body requires a steady influx of, to ensure all biochemical reactions are fulfilled of them.

Micronutrients assist the body’s growth and helps with food digestion whilst increasing alertness levels. They also make sure your body is more resistant to infectious diseases and helps the digestion of fats, protein and carbohydrates. Vitamins and minerals also act as an impetus which is helping speed up many important chemical reactions body cells

It is true most minerals and vitamins are not directly produced by our body. It is for this simple reason these nutrients are sought after in food or in supplements.

Overall there are 13 vitamins, four of which are fat soluble with the remaining nine considered to be water-soluble. Whilst the fat solubles has the ability to be stored in various parts of your body, water soluble vitamins do not get stored in any great quantity, so it is even more important your body receives a regular influx of these vitamins routinely.

Some varieties of fat soluble vitamins which can be stored within your body include vitamins A, D, E, K, and will dissolve within fatty tissue but need to react with bile in order to be successfully absorbed.

Vitamins which are considered to be water soluble include C and the eight B vitamins. These all dissolve in water so it is important to be careful they are not washed out of the food during preparation and cooking.

If you have a balanced and nutritious diet, you should already be getting all the vitamins and minerals you need. It is often easier said than done to get adequate amounts these nutrients, and for this reason it is often easier to add vitamins supplements to your diet.
